If you’re like me you’ll probably find posting to Instagram much easier from your desktop. Especially if you’re editing your photos to brand them before uploading.
Well, there’s a simple way to get around having to transfer an edited photo back to your phone just to use Instagram’s mobile app. And the best part is there is no software download required. Let me tell you how …
If you use Chrome (and really you should be)…
- log into your account via your desktop on Instagram.com
- Once in there, use Ctrl+Shift+I to bring up the browsers developer page.
- In the top left corner, you’ll see the option to select the device you’d like to view on. Choose the iPad as it will make it much easier to see what you’re doing (see image below).
- Now all you need to do is select the + icon at the bottom of the device (it may take a moment or a page refresh to show up) which will allow you to upload a photo directly from your desktop. Voila!
Note if you’re still not seeing the plus button – try pretending you’re on different a different device. Lately, I’ve noticed the ‘ipad‘ choice isn’t working for me. Once you’ve uploaded the photo you can then choose the ipad to make it easier to see what you’re doing.
If you’re on Safari, Firefox or Microsoft Edge…
This is a little trickier as you’ll need to manually change the ‘user agent’ setting in your browser to access the developers view. Doing a Google search can give you directions on how to change the setting on each browser, or you can download apps to make it a little easier to make that switch. To be honest though … there’s a reason why Chrome is now the #1 browser in the world. Why not make that switch…?!
